Christy Reviews
Don't bother watching her maga performance.
If you have such good "jeans" why do all your films bomb?
There are times when a biopic appears and you’ve never heard of the subject and you wonder what inspired them to make this story. That was the case when I saw the repeated trailers for this movie. I could see that Sydney Sweeney had gone against type as the protagonist and they pricked my curiosity enough to make me want to see it. I’m glad that I didn’t go to the Google beforehand to find out any more than I’d seen in the trailers as this made what unfolded as the story developed far more interesting. I really enjoyed movie and was glad that I took the opportunity to see it on the big screen. Not that it needs a big screen but it meant that there were no outside distractions during its runtime. I’m guessing that it may not take huge money given the timing of its release, being up against Wicked: For Good and the exorbitant price of cinema tickets these days.
Sydney Sweeney provides an authentic performance in this heartbreaking biopic, adequately balanced against co-star Ben Foster. Much like the real-life story, we are mesmerized, bystanders watching a tragedy unfold, transfixed, helpless to deflect what we know will be the horrifying, but unavoidable, outcome.
Sydney Sweeney deserves an Oscar. Her acting was phenomenal. Incredible true story. See it.
I thought Sydney Sweeney did a superb job as the lead role! She gained 35 pounds, worked out 5 hours a day for 11 weeks, doing weights, training, boxing and did very realistic fight scenes, even suffering a concussion and a bloody nose. But it paid off since the real Christy Martin said she was excellent and she wholeheartedly approved of the movie. This film is much more than just a boxing film, although you feel the sport through the performance by Sweeney and the rest of the cast. It is also about her family not accepting her orientation and also about her being taken advantage of by her significant other. To me, it was not only entertaining, but eye opening as well. It was a memorable movie to me and I would highly recommend it to others. I really loved the raw power of this movie due to the fine performances by the cast, especially Sydney Sweeney.
Seen this movie as a early screening, definitely wouldn't have went if I knew it was this, film itself is bad just bad, I cannot understand the love for this, maybe I'm insensitive or something, but nothing about this was good in any way.
very good story and movie. impressive how they pulled it all together!
Boring.... very boring and stupid, and the reaction is bad for me
A thought provoking, well written and beautifully acted film. I went in knowing nothing about Christy and her life but left feeling the need to know more and holding a strong affinity for her. The fact that this is based upon true events makes it all the more remarkable. One of my top ten films of 2025.
I went to watch this as a potential dark horse movie and it was exactly that. Other than a bit of pacing issues it was an entertaining watch, for the boxing career aspects and the social / personal issues the MC was going through. You do find yourself just wanting to slug the monsters in her life, but as its based on a real person / events it doesn't quite work out so simple.
I didn't expect it to be as good as it was but also didn't know anything about Christy Martin before going in.
Oscar-worthy performance by Sydney Sweeney!
Really good movie, it was kind of a struggle to get through. Though it is a fighting movie, but the movie was shot and the actors did well.
Don’t know why this flopped at the box office. Loved it! Sweeney was great!
"Christy" isn't without some genre tropes, but it is one of those biopics I watched knowing nothing about its subject. The movie tackles a lot of different storylines, which can make it feel overstuffed and inconsistently paced, but it is still an interesting enough movie that feels worth telling, particularly with the events that take place in the final act. Sydney Sweeney delivers one of her best performances, where it really feels like she has some acting chops, and I hope more people watch this just so they can see she is capable as an actress. Overall, this is a sports biopic where the real conflict takes place outside of the ring, but it is an engaging enough watch, even though it is far from the best of the boxing movie subgenre.
Solid film. Emotional, well paced and acted.
Spoilers, forthcoming. My opinion of this film is controversial. Christy is a survivor of domestic violence. And the film intends to bring that to a high point with her being the hero. But all I come away with from this film are two incredibly talented people who did not make great decisions in their private life. Ok. Her boxing trainer is the bad guy. Okay, sure if not only because most people assume there is an Abuser and a Victim in such a relationship. In truth, there is an Abuser and an Enabler. The continuation of the relationship enables the abuse. But then this partially puts the blame upon the victim. Most film goers likely aren't ready to hear that. She remarried and moved happily onwards without any troubles? That is rarely what happens, as few are aware it is a pattern of diseased behavior. And it persists as a cycle. There are no heroes. Only two talented individuals making bad decisions in their personal lives. Ben Foster deserves an Oscar just for being brave enough to portray onscreen the other half of such a troubled individual in that relationship.
Loved it! Felt very raw and you forget who is playing the character. Some exposition could’ve been better but overall loved
Movie packs a Roundhouse punch and had my attention throughout. Good performances… especially from Sweeney
