David Sims The Atlantic What could have been the kind of bittersweet monster movie del Toro has excelled at instead feels shackled by its opulence, trudging through a two-and-a-half-hour run time to arrive at its expected conclusion. Nov 12, 2025 Full Review Tim Cogshell FilmWeek (LAist) It works. It's dark, it's classical Guillermo, it's very bloody -- it's Frankenstein. Nov 10, 2025 Full Review Linda Holmes Pop Culture Happy Hour (NPR Podcast) As much as I appreciate it thematically, I think what really blew me away about it is that this is a really, really beautiful movie, even though it's a very gruesome movie, in many respects. Nov 10, 2025 Full Review Filipe Freitas Always Good Movies This deceptive, CGI-laden spectacle—split into two amorphous chapters—is weak and unsurprising, lacking coherence in several places. Rated: 2/5 Nov 29, 2025 Full Review Rob Dean Bullz-Eye.com Del Toro’s creation is a great idea with so much beauty within it, but the film simply doesn’t do enough to make it the masterpiece as it could have been. Rated: 3.5/5 Nov 26, 2025 Full Review Nicolás Delgadillo Knotfest It's the kind of film that feels truly handcrafted; stitched together with an almost obsessive attention to detail, much like Victor's own creation. Anthony L Jacob Elordi has just earned himself an Oscar nomination 🙌🏼 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/30/25 Full Review Randall R This movie is in my TOP FIVE this year! It is incredible start to finish. WOW! I was blown away with the amazing sets, and writing and directing. The actors are all great, but Jacob Elordi is outstanding and should be nominated for an Oscar. He completely disappears into the character of the monster and this retelling is completely fresh and new bringing a whole new way to look at this very famous story. I loved this film! I am so glad I saw it at a theater. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/29/25 Full Review leslay Absolutely phenomenal movie, i can't stress enough how beautiful this movie was Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/27/25 Full Review Aayan Nisar “If you are to not award me love, then I will indulge in rage. And mine is infinite” What a line. How do you create and then hate your own creation? Man never was, and will never be able to play God for he is too fallible and naive. The film makes you quite pensive throughout, as it shows how humans, specifically Victor, are the real monsters and by the end of the movie I felt more like a misanthrope than I already did. Yet, there was also the good side of humanity, highlighted by the sort of motherly and understanding nature of Elizabeth towards the monster and the wisdom of the old man and his perspective, which were contrasting to Victor. There was also this notion of forgiveness, understanding and a sort of empathy that was prevalent throughout the monster’s character development, and the ending brought it all together. Such a profound, meaningful movie with beautiful cinematography and I cannot see anyone other than Jacob Elordi play the monster. Such a brilliant performance. I also believe that the people who rated this movie low are asking too much of it. The movie delivers what it should, in my humble opinion. Who knows, my opinion might change after I read the book but I’ll say this: this is Del Toro’s Frankenstein not Mary Shelley’s and it should be seen as such. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/27/25 Full Review Captain Beautifully well done. The story, the cinematography and the actors are all impeccably realised. Such a treat.
