Critics Consensus

Revealing character through the rules of the game, Eephus is a bittersweet baseball outing thrown at a perfect pitch.

The Reveal

Eephus lets that sense of finality hum as background noise to a low-key comedy built around an Altman-esque ensemble of colorful characters who drift in and out of the spotlight as they day progresses.

FilmWeek (LAist)

This movie is something of an eephus: a long, slow, looping thing that's meant to distract and delay... It's about community, and it's kind of beautiful.

Filmspotting

Every baseball movie asks us to believe the game is a metaphor for life. Lund isn’t asking.

Cinema Axis

Easily one of the year’s best films, Eephus finds hope in community while understanding that endings are unavoidable. Lund reminds viewers that baseball may not stop the changes that are a part of life, but it can help us come to terms with them together.

From the Front Row

In the shimmering twilight of this wise and remarkable film, time passes slowly, yet like its ragtag players, I never wanted it to end.

The Post NZ

Eephus is grounded by the natural arc of a baseball game and humour and drama that flows from what’s taking place in the match itself.

I remember a little league game I was in, extra innings on a school night and at least 11pm, a teammate’s mom, who wasn’t at the game, came to make him come home lol. I’m glad my mom and dad always understood and share the love of the game of baseball. That’s what this movie did for me, brought back many memories of the greatest sport ever!

Great pace and great characters. The overt sense of communal loss really humanizes this cast fullnof goobers.
